"Ichimame works at Ichi, a teahouse in the Kamishichiken district, one of Kyoto's five geisha districts. She started the "Maiko Blog" on the teahouse Web site last December to inform people about the world of apprentice geisha or ‘maiko’. She writes about the everyday business of a maiko's life, such as the training she receives in traditional dance and singing. In September alone, her blog received 300,000 hits. And, not only is it being read by hundreds of thousands of people, but it has already encouraged one 16-year-old girl to follow in its author's footsteps":
